The salary range for Trainee Probation Officers in 2007 is £17,191 - £18,406 (under review)

The full time salary for a trained Probation Officer starts at £26,229 (under review)

The working week is normally 37 hours

Trainees are entitled to a minimum of 26 days leave a year, plus 8 days public holiday

What a trainee Probation Officer does
Trainee Probation Officers:
  • learn to work effectively with offenders in a range of settings, with their employing probation area

  • work to achieve the NVQ level 4 in Community Justice

  • undertake degree level study with De Montfort University, delivered in Birmingham and Leicester -depending on which probation area the trainee is based. This is via distance and block learning with the employing probation area

  • are supervised throughout their training by a Practice Development Assessor, as well as other probation managers.
