Developing In-house Peer Facilitated Action Learning Sets

The Aim of this programme is to develop the skills and confidence of a group of managers to work in a peer facilitated group

Facilitation: The sets will be peer facilitated, i.e. each person in the set will take responsibility for facilitating one round.  Each set will be given a day’s training in self facilitation, this will consist of an extended length set with reflections and feedback on each round.  By the end of the day everyone in the set will be equipped with the skills confidence and knowledge to participate in a peer facilitated set.

Also during the day the group will negotiate ground rules for working together, and identify learning objectives for each individual and the set. The set will also select a ‘set champion.’

The Set Champion: Each set will have a set champion.  The set champion will not be the sole facilitator. S/he will take ultimate responsibility for:

  • Ensuring that the group stays on task
  • Notifying attendance to training and following up non-attendance
  • Making sure that the set can meet (for instance co-coordinating a change of date or venue if necessary)
  • Collating and feeding back organisational development issues that arise (to Sally at mid programme set champion’s meeting in the first instance)
  • Liaising as appropriate if the set needs help or support.

Final Day/review: The final day would be for all managers including AET. The programme can be negotiated but the main purpose would be to review learning from the sets.
