The Midlands Consortium provides a range of learning and development training for staff in the Criminal Justice sector and other agencies working with people with social or psychological difficulties.
These are established programmes delivered by qualified trainers.
Probation Qualification Awards
These awards provide work-based pathways to qualify as either a Probation Services’ Officer (PSO) or as Probation Officer (PO).

Practitioner Learning and Development Programme
This programme is provided for the Midlands Probation Trusts and supports the Probation Qualifying Framework (Vocational Qualification level 3 in Probation Practice and for Graduate Diploma PSOs and the first six VQ units of the Vocational level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice).
The programme has a range of delivery methods including workshops, e-learning, facilitated learning sets and workbooks. The programme is available to existing PSOs or other staff working in the Criminal Justice sector.
For Midlands Probation Trust staff who are undertaking the Foundation Degree and Graduate Degree pathways the following workshops will be delivered to support the academic curriculum:
- Report writing skills
- Extremism
- Multi Agency Protection Panel
- Working with violent offenders
- Risk assessment and risk management
- Staff supervision.
