Probation Training - Midlands Consortium
The Midlands Consortium is one of nine such Consortia across England and Wales. We:
- Recruit and train the best people possible to become qualified Probation Officers/ Offender Managers.
- Support in-service training for all grades of staff to develop their working practice.
- Offer a wide range of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).
- Develop and co-ordinate Probation Service Officer induction and development programmes throughout the region.
- Manage all regional, and some national, tutor training for Accredited Offender Behaviour Programmes.
- On behalf of NOMS manage training for staff who work with sex offenders.
- Develop and deliver a range of leadership and management development training programmes.

What do probation staff do?
- Work with people who have committed different types of offences such as burglary, violence, car crime and sex offences.
- Provide probation supervision, unpaid work, offender behaviour programmes and specialist support services which can stop people committing further offences.
- Prepare prisoners for release, and supervise them on licence afterwards.
- Liaise with victims of serious crime.
